Taiwan Plans AI Industrial Parks to Attract Global Startups: MODA
August 21, 2024

The Taiwanese government plans to establish two AI industrial parks to bolster its information and communications technology sectors, according to the new Digital Affairs Minister. The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) and the National Development Council (NDC) will lead this initiative, aiming to attract global AI startups and boost Taiwan's digital economy to over NT$1 trillion (US$30.96 billion) within two years.

A concrete action plan for these parks is expected by the end of 2024. Additionally, MODA is focusing on strengthening cybersecurity by amending the Cyber Security Management Act and promoting "Zero Trust Architecture" to safeguard infrastructure and accelerate the development of quantum cryptography.

With AI becoming a significant focus in recent years, Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC), a major government think tank and leading research institute in Taiwan, has been dedicated to exploring the latest developments in PCs, smartphones, and servers with built-in AI chips. MIC estimates that the global share of AI PCs will increase from around 15.7% in 2024 to nearly 66% in 2027, while the global share of AI servers is expected to rise from 15.9% in 2024 to 21.1% in 2027. Meanwhile, the global share of AI smartphones is projected to grow from 11% in 2024 to 42% in 2027, according to MIC.
