Shipment of Greater Chinese Notebook PC Industry Sees Significant QoQ Growth in 3Q '09, Says MIC
November 30, 2009

According to research of the Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC) conducted as part of the ITIS project, shipment volume of the Greater Chinese notebook PC industry in the full-year 2009 is expected to reach 116.93 million units, growing 4.0% compared to 2008.

In the third quarter of 2009 shipment volume of the Greater Chinese notebook PC industry is estimated at 32.19 million units, up 17.9% sequentially. The industry's shipment value in the third quarter of 2009 is estimated at US$15.61 billion, up 17.4% sequentially.

Looking at the industry's development in the near-term future, Microsoft's Windows 7, Intel's CULV and the Arrandale CPU are expected to stimulate replacement demand in 2010.

According to MIC Industry Analyst Nicole Huang, "even though the shipment performance of the Greater Chinese notebook PC industry in the third quarter was somewhat affected by several component shortages, shipment of CULV models are increasing and the launch of Windows 7 is having a positive impact on demand. However, development of the market's wait-and-see attitude towards Windows 7 will be a key factor for the industry in the future."
