Digital signage and e-paper manufacturer E Ink said that it has succeeded in developing a new flexible EPD (Electronic Paper Display) technology, dubbed E Ink Mobius, in collaboration with Sony, according to the company's press release on May 13. This technology is based on Sony's flexible TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology dedicated for the use of E Ink's EPD. Instead of using glass substrates, EPDs adopt plastic ones that can substantially reduce the display weight by as much as 50%. The lightweight and flexible features of EPD technology give it great potential to be applied to mobile products requiring larger display areas. E Ink schedules to mass produce EPDs in the second half of 2013.
