Sony, Toshiba Announce Plans for OEL TVs

On April 12, Sony and Toshiba both announced their rollout plans for OEL (Organic Electro-Luminescent) panel TVs. Sony's 11-inch OEL TVs are expected to be released by the end of 2007, with its 27-inch models currently still under development. Meanwhile, Toshiba stated that its OEL TVs, measuring 27 to 30 inches, are slated to be commercialized in 2009. Featuring panels with a thickness of three millimeter, which is thinner than LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) panels and PDPs (Plasma Display Panel), OEL TVs however are said to be two to four times more expensive than LCD TVs.
