MIC Predicts 17% of Taiwanese PC Products to Feature AI Functionality in 2024
January 24, 2024

PC products featuring Neural Processing Units (NPUs) will constitute a remarkable 17% of the total PC shipments in the Taiwanese PC industry by the end of 2024, according to Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC). as reported by the Taipei-based Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute (MIC). As per MIC's definition, AI PCs are capable of autonomously executing generative AI applications without requiring internet connectivity, and these products are equipped with NPUs for efficient AI computations. Apart from the Apple M series, Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm are all set to release their own NPUs. Various brands are expected to roll out corresponding product combinations by mid-2024.

Amidst ongoing geopolitical uncertainties, major PC brands are anticipating conservative consumer spending in the current year. However, the commercial PC market is expected to benefit from the introduction of AI PCs and the Windows replacement cycle. Consequently, MIC predicts that the global notebook PC market will reach approximately 179.1 million units in 2024, reflecting a 5.8% year-on-year increase. The global desktop PC market is also forecasted to experience a slight year-on-year growth of 1.7%, reaching approximately 67.970 million units in the same year.
