MediaTek Invests Billions in AI Data Center to Boost Leadership

Taiwan's semiconductor leader, MediaTek, recently announced its plan to accelerate its AI initiatives with a significant investment in a data center, to be located at the Miaoli Tongluo Science Park, as reported by the Commercial Daily News on January 8. With a projected three-phase construction and an initial investment of NT$42.1 billion (US$1.38 billion; US$1=NT$30.4), the facility aims to meet the demands of research and development while fortifying MediaTek's presence in the AI landscape. 

MediaTek, known for its dominance particularly in smartphone chipsets, is expanding into generative AI. The company collaborates with clients to develop customized LLMs (Large Language Models), deepening its partnership reliance and solidifying its leadership in the AI era. The new data center is built to support the company's smartphone chip business and contribute to ventures like ASICs and intelligent cockpits for automotive applications.
