Chunghwa Telecom, Telkom Indonesia Join Hands for Smart City Solutions

Taiwan's leading telecom operator Chunghwa Telecom recently announced that the company has entered a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with PINS Indonesia, a subsidiary of Telkom Indonesia, through its subsidiary CHT Infinity, the Commercial Daily reported on March 31. CHT Infinity is a joint venture of Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom and Singapore's Infineon Technologies with a stockholding of 40% and 60%, respectively. Pursuant to the agreement, they will implement CHTCityOS, a smart city platform developed by Chunghwa Telecom, across Indonesia. The platform includes a variety of hardware devices such as 5G base stations, LED lights, wireless hotspots, charging stations, air quality detectors, etc. Besides smart cities, they will also join forces in the development of smart healthcare, smart transportation, and smart energy. Meanwhile, the Indonesian government has impressive plans to make their cities develop. It has set goals to have intelligent city solutions. The strategy began in 2017 with the digitization plan called "The 100 Smart Cities Movement" with an aim to improve the nation's state by curbing urbanization issues.   

According to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), Taiwan, as a major supplier of 5G CPE (Customer Premise Equipment, is expected to ship approximately 1.6 million 5G FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) CPE in the third quarter of 2023 alone, up 8.3% sequentially and 25.6 %year-on-year. MIC added that the Taiwanese 5G FWA CPE industry has seen a record quarterly shipment volume with a triple-digit increase throughout 2022. Established in 1987, MIC is a division of III (Institute for Information Industry), a major government think tank, and one of the leading IT research institutes in Taiwan.
