LG Display to Expand Capacity for Flexible OLED Displays

LG Display announced that it will invests 1.99 trillion won (US$1.75 billion; US$1=1137 won) into its flexible OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display production line in Paju, South Korea, as part of its preemptive efforts to tap the growing demand of OLED displays for use in smartphones, according to the Nikkei on July 27. The new production line is scheduled to start mass production in the second half of 2018 and will produce 15,000 sheets per month. In addition, the production line will be able to supply 5.7-inch OLED displays for 36 million smartphones per year. Nevertheless, Samsung is currently the sole supplier of OLED displays for Apple's iPhone with over 90% of the market share.
