AUO Sells 3.5G LCD Fab to WNC for NT$810 Million
August 13, 2015

AUO announced a deal to sell its L3A LCD fab, which began operation in 1999, to Taiwan-based communications device maker WNC (Wistron NeWeb Corporation) for NT$810 million (US$25.2 million; US$1=NT$32.14), with a capital gain of around NT$550 million (US$17.1 million), reported Economic Daily News on August 11. As the L3A fab mainly uses 3.5G technology that is out of date, the sale will not affect AUO's current production capacity, said the company. Thanks to the growing demand for smart home products, WNC has been constantly expanding capacity in both China (Kunshan) and Taiwan (Hsinchu). The acquisition of AUO's L3A fab is in line with its expansion plans.
