CPT (Chunghwa Picture Tubes) announced that it plans to build a new Gen 6 facility in Fujian, China, with a total investment of 12 billion RMB (US$1.9 billion; US$1=6.207 RMB) coming from the Chinese government, local banks, and private placement, reported Economic Daily News on June 3. The facility will break ground in September this year and is expected to churn out 30,000 panels per month after launching volume production in the second half of 2017. Aside from LCM (Liquid Crystal Module) business in China, the investment is the company's first foray into upstream panel production lines locally.
