Japanese mobile broadband operator Emobile has
teamed up with Ericsson for the debut of HSPA+ (High Speed Packet Access
Evolution) network in Japan, Nikkei reported on September 3. Emobile's HSPA+
network, which is estimated to provide a maximum data transmission rate of
21Mbps, has been launched in major Japanese cities including Tokyo, Osaka,
Yokohama, and Nagoya. Deployment of the HSPA+ network constitutes part of
Emobile and Ericsson's network expansion and upgrade agreement, under which
Ericsson serves as the provider of the core network and core systems
integration services for Emobile. In addition, Ericsson will also provide HSPA+
equipment and network deployment services for the upgrade of Emobile's existing
WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access)/HSPA radio access network.
