Abstract

The world has been focused on how the U.S.-China technology war will impact Huawei’s smartphone business, but there were recently two major events involving Apple’s supply chain that made waves in the mobile phone market. First, in July Wistron sold its fully owned subsidiaries in China located in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province to China's Luxshare Group. Next, in August, Catcher Technology Catcher announced it would sell the Taizhou-based iPhone casing production companies Topo Technology and Meeca Technology to Hunan-based glass cover supplier Lens Technology. This report provides an overview of the development of Apple supply chain, describes two most likely scenarios of how Apple will develop in the premium market and/or lower-end market along with the consequences, and examines how Apple can make the most of the a volatile market environment.
