The Worldwide Mobile Phone Camera Module Market and Taiwan's Industry, 2010 and Beyond

Abstract

With the global economic downturn taking its toll, worldwide mobile phone shipment volume declined 2.3% year-on-year in 2009. Shipment volume of camera modules, however, still managed to see a 1.7% year-on-year growth. Thanks to the increasing shipment of Smartphones, the share of 5MP resolution products is increasing considerably. Taiwanese manufacturers' shipment volume declined in 2009 due to reduced orders from brands such as Sony Ericsson. In the second half of 2010, in anticipation of the economic recovery and the influx of new clients, the Taiwanese industry's full-year shipment volume is expected to grow slightly to 230 million units in 2010. This report examines the development of the worldwide mobile phone camera module market in 2010, and also analyzes the Taiwanese industry.
