Abstract

Development of the worldwide PND (Portable Navigation Device) market has predominantly focused on pure PNDs. Faced with keen market competition and decreasing component prices, leading vendors such as TomTom and Garmin began to boost the deployment of value-line and entry-level products. Due to their advantages in pricing, brand business, and distribution channels, these leading vendors have gained significantly in market share and thus squeezed the room for development of second-tier branded vendors in Europe, North America, and Taiwan. It is projected that this trend will continue, further intensifying the concentration of the pure PND industry.
