Abstract

The global DSC market has posted slow growth in 2005, mainly attributed to the high household penetration of DSC in key regional markets and falling replacement demand among consumers. Although DSCs are moving toward higher resolutions and lighter, slimmer designs, resolution upgrades have slowed down with the mainstream specification remaining at 5MP. New industrial designs and additional features such as shockproof, waterproof, and Wi-Fi functionality, have become available. Due to the abrupt price drop in consumer models, DSC brands not only focus on mainstream consumer models, but also roll out budget D-SLR and professional models using high optical zoom lenses, so as to stimulate procurement and boost profits. This report analyzes the worldwide DSC market and its development through the variation of market scale and progress of product specifications.
