Abstract

NEC is Japan's largest communications equipment vendor. It supplies customers with a wide range of products, including core network equipment, base stations and mobile phones. It also provides various types of solutions and application service platforms; NEC is thus an all-round communications solution provider. NEC has a close relationship with NTT DoCoMo; as NTT DoCoMo's operations have expanded overseas, so have NEC's, and NEC is now a major global supplier of WCDMA handsets and network equipment. Many other Japanese companies have been withdrawing from China, but NEC has been working aggressively to develop the China market. This report will analyze the current development of NEC's operations, focusing on NEC's competitiveness in mobile communications and on its global R&D network.
