Abstract

Continuing LCD panel price declines are expected to beneficial to price reductions of application products; second-half market demand is expected to be boosted by end-market price reductions, back-to-school effect, and holiday season. 16:9 IT application panels are expected to break into the value-line and multimedia application markets and stimulate demand; further room for growth is projected for emerging medium-sized application products. Taiwanese LCD TV contract makers find business opportunities with the trend of low-price LCD TVs and increasing share of major brands' outsourcing production; the emerging markets of China and Eastern Europe featuring booming demand are envisaged to become Taiwanese LCD TV makers' new customers. With the support of domestic panel and IC suppliers, Taiwanese LCD TV makers are able to accelerate the production of large-sized, high-definition, low-cost products; moreover, with the global assembly deployment nearing complete, Taiwanese makers are able to employ SKD or even CKD practice to save on logistics costs and avoid tariffs. Furthermore, as Taiwanese LCD monitor makers have achieved economies of scale, Korean vendors continue to increase outsourcing to Taiwan.
