Abstract

With the advent of the peak season, and stimulated by the back-to-school demand in Europe and the United States, demand in the LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) monitor end-market picked up, straining supply of mainstream-sized LCD monitor panels, which led to a rapid increase in panel prices. With prices of mainstream 17- and 19-inch LCD monitor panels rising, product mix of major Taiwanese LCD monitor makers also shifted to higher-priced and larger-sized models, and widescreen models, enabling the Taiwanese LCD monitor industry to score a strong performance in both shipment volume and shipment value in the third quarter. However, LCD monitor panel price increases are expected to abate in the fourth quarter, as peak shipment by system assemblers for the Christmas season falls in October. After demand slows down again, LCD monitor panel prices will also lose some of their growth momentum.
