Abstract

In 2005, the total shipment volume of the global small- and medium-sized LCD panel industry came to 2.15 billion panels; global shipment value totaled US$18.78 billion. These figures represented an increase of 7.9% and 3.6% respectively on 2004. It is anticipated that in 2006 global shipment volume will rise to 2.3 billion panels, and global shipment value will increase to US$20.01 billion. The growth rate for both shipment volume and value has been slowing steadily, mainly because the small- and medium-sized panel industry is approaching the end of the growth phase in its product lifecycle; overcapacity is starting to drive prices downwards. At the same time, manufacturers are working to upgrade display specifications in an effort to differentiate their products. This report will analyze these trends, and provide an industry forecast for the period 2006 - 2010, focusing on panel applications and display technologies.
