Abstract

In 2001, the global shipment volume of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) monitors surpassed the 10 million unit-mark. Ever since the global market has twice experienced oversupply of LCD panels, in 2002 and 2004, and witnessed continuous investments in new production lines by LCD panel makers. Panel prices have dropped along with the enhancement of production efficiency of new capacity, driving down prices of LCD monitors and helping makers penetrate the high-purchasing-power markets in Europe, the U.S., and Japan, where CDT (Color Display Tube) monitor replacement has gathered steam.
