Abstract

The evolution of the Chinese display industry can be traced back to the 1950s. Subsequently, the development of the display industry was included in the Seventh Five-year Plan. However, failure to provide sufficient support for the industry's growth prevented it from moving beyond the low-end manufacturing stage. It was not until the Tenth Five-year Plan that the development of new types of display technology was made a key element in the government's industrial policy. The government introduced a series of measures to support technology innovation in this field, thereby helping to speed up the display industry's development. This report analyses the evolution of the Chinese government's policy with respect to the development of the display industry, the various supporting policies that have been introduced, and the current distribution of display industry clusters within China.
