The Taiwanese Large Size TFT LCD Panel Industry, 2004 and Beyond

Abstract

In the fourth quarter of 2004, driven by falling panel prices and seasonal effects, Taiwanese large size TFT LCD panel shipments increased around 21% sequentially to reach approximately 17 million units. Nonetheless, ASP experienced a rapid slip, and shipment value fell by 4.9% sequentially. The panel price fall boosted demand for 17" and 19" LCD monitors as well as for LCD TVs 20" and up. Looking forward to the first quarter of 2005, AUO, CMO, and CPT each have new production lines launching into mass production. With LCD monitor and LCD TV sales still humming, shipments in this traditionally slack season may post a slight sequential increase to achieve close to17.5 million units.
