Abstract

Due to the lack of seasonal demand and lukewarm sales of Windows 8 models, the Greater China notebook PC industry's shipment volume only saw slight sequential growth of 1.5% to 43.22 million units in the fourth quarter of 2012. The industry's ASP rose slightly to US$483, thanks to the decreasing share of netbook PC shipment. The industry's shipment value reached around US$20.9 billion in the fourth quarter of 2012, reaching the pinnacle of the year. Looking forward to the first quarter of 2013, it is projected that the industry's shipment volume will decline 13.9% sequentially due to the fact that market demand for notebook PCs is usually weak in the first quarter, and the shipment to the Chinese market is unable to pick up momentum.
