Will Chinese Makers Gain Higher Ground with Cluster Servers?
December 16, 2002 / Peter Lin
7 Page, Radar
Abstract
Chinese makers have previously been largely confined to production of mid-range and value-line servers, with little involvement in the high-end segment. However, the iCluster 1800 cluster server produced by leading Chinese PC manufacturer Legend ranked 43rd in the November 2002 list of the top 500 supercomputers. Additionally, Chinese server vendor Langchao recently held a strategy meeting to announce and discuss the company's new unified computing application architecture based on high-speed exchange technology. This architecture enables an integrated, open, scalable, high-performance exchange system through modular computing, storage, and communications units. This Radar discusses the motivation and impact of Chinese server manufacturers' entry into the high-end server segment.
