US$1,000 Projectors Spark Volume Gains for Taiwanese Makers in 2Q 2003
July 24, 2003
- Skirting the impact of SARS in Asia Pacific markets, Taiwanese projector volume rose 46% sequentially to 95,500 units in the second quarter of 2003 as value-line SVGA models priced under US$1,000 successfully attracted demand in North American and European consumer markets. Such rollouts brought about a considerable 10% rise in share of SVGA shipments from the first quarter of 2003. However, as XGA projectors continue to be the mainstream for the corporate market, XGA continued to account for over 60% of volume.

Shipment value saw a sequential rise of 37% to US$140 million in the second quarter. Despite gains in SVGA share, the fall in average selling price was limited due to stable panel prices.

With sustained growth of North American and European demand, Taiwanese projector shipments are expected to climb by over 20%. Demand for SVGA in the consumer market is likely to remain particularly strong, which is anticipated to cause a fall in XGA share to approximately 50% in the third quarter of 2003.
