YouTube, Netflix, and Line TV are Top Three Streaming TV Services for Taiwanese Viewers in 2021: MIC

Over 76% of Taiwanese consumers experience streaming and 31.5% of them said they even spend more hours on streaming, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), one of the leading IT research institute in Taiwan and a division of the III (Institute for Information Industry). In the fourth quarter of 2021, MIC surveyed 1,068 Taiwanese consumers to understand their viewing habits across 20 individual streaming TV services.

MIC's survey indicates that that the top 3 most popular streaming TV services in Taiwan are YouTube (68%), Netflix (38%), and Line TV (21%). The findings also show that 65.1% of respondents age 26-30 are willing to spend on paid, ad-free streaming TV services like Netflix and 66.6% of respondents age 51-55 enjoy free but ads-supported streaming TV services like YouTube.

Consumers’ streaming viewing habits in 2021



 

"Time spent on streaming TV is soaring as COVID-19 has completed changed the consumer viewing habits when it comes to streaming TV services," said Mandy Wang, senior industry analyst in MIC. “When it comes to monthly subscription fees, MIC's survey also indicates that 46% of respondents age 51-56 spend NT$300 (US$10.35)and more per month on streaming TV service in 2021 and 18% of them even are willing to spend more than NT$500 (US$17.25) on their favorite streaming services.”
