With the coronavirus speeding up the stay-at-home trend, the market demand for notebook PCs and other IT products has risen sharply since the 2H 2020, thereby driving up demand for all kinds of chips and leading to a chip supply crunch, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a major government think tank and IT research institute in Taiwan. Coupled with the growing number of 5G, AI, and IoT applications, MIC predicted shipment value of the Taiwanese semiconductor industry will score over US$114.9 billion in 2021, up 16.5% year-on-year.
