Global 5G Smartphone to Grow 125.3% to 538.2 Million Units in 2021: MIC

Global 5G smartphone shipment volume is estimated to grow 125.3% year-on-year and reach US538.2 million units in 2021, which accounts for 39.3% of the global smartphone shipments, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a major government think tank and IT research institute in Taiwan. “The share of 5G smartphones is expected to account for 73.8% of the total smartphone shipments in 2025, representing a 29.4% CAGR (Compound Annual Growth),” said Rachel Liao, industry analyst at MIC.

5G development is another focus area of the industry in 2021. MIC said there were 162 telecoms from 68 countries rolled out their 5G commercial services as of the first quarter of 2021. The number of 5G users is anticipated to reach over 600 million in 2021, up from 400 million in 2020.
