Over 40% of Taiwanese Consumers Aged 26-45 Prefer Mobile Payment: MIC

Given all payment options, over 37% of Taiwanese consumers prefer mobile payment, followed by credit cards (34.5%) and cash (18.8%), according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a major government think tank and IT research institute in Taiwan. By age group, 31% of consumers aged 18-25, over 46% of consumers aged 26-45, and over 42% of consumers aged 36-45 prefer mobile payment. Based on MIC's findings, 77.1% of Taiwanese consumers aged 18-65 have made mobile payment before.

Up to 84.7% of consumers aged 26-35 have made mobile payments in Taiwan or abroad, followed by consumers aged 36-45 (80.6%) and those aged 46-55 (75%). The survey was conducted from September 1 to September 30 in 2020.

Based on MIC’s findings, over 25% of Taiwanese consumers made 11 and above mobile payment transactions on average per month, especially those aged 18-45. By age group, over 38% of consumers aged 56-65 make 3 or less mobile payment transactions, followed by those aged 46-55.
