In 2018, the global IC design demand was affected by the slowdown of the smartphone market and seven consecutive years of declines in personal computers. Although the demand for emerging applications such as 5G has mushroomed, it is expected that the global semiconductor market will still decline 2.2% year-on-year in 2019, reaching US$458.5 billion, according to the MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute) of III (Institute for Information Industry). “the US IC design industry’s shipment value continued to be the world’s first, accounting for about 60% of the world's total in 2018 and marking a significant increase compared to 2017. The main reason is that Broadcom has completed moving its headquarters from Singapore back to the United States,” said Patrick Wu, industry analyst of MIC.
