Taiwanese Communications Shipment Value is Expected to Reach Over USD 90 Billion in 2017: MIC

Shipment value of the Taiwanese communications industry is estimated to score about NTD 2.96 trillion (USD 98.3 billion; USD1 = NTD 30.1) in 2017, down 4% year-on-year, according to Taipei-based research institute Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute). "Despite the market continues to decline, mobile devices will still account for 64.4% of total communications shipments," says Allen Cheng, industry analyst with MIC.

"Aside from mobile devices, the industry will start to focus more on wrist wearable. AR/VR (Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality) HMD (Head Mounted Display), drone, and robot sectors in the second half of 2017. In 2017, we estimate shipment value of wrist wearables will reach nearly NTD120 billion (USD3.99 billion), up nearly 8% year-on-year, while shipment volume will grow over 25% year-on-year; AR/VR HMD will reach over NTD 7 billion (USD 232.6 million), up over 50% year-on-year, drone over NTD170 million (USD5.65 million), and robot nearly NTD 1.7 billion (USD56.5 million)."
