Shipment value of the global semiconductor industry is estimated to grow at 7.1% year-on-year, according to MIC (Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute), a Taipei-based research institute. "This is due largely in part to the increasing demand for ICs for use in industrial applications and automobile sector and the rising prices of DRAM ICs. These have offset the effect of declining PC market and subdued smartphone growth on the industry," says Charles Chou, industry consultant with MIC.
