Taiwan's Mobile Payment User Base Expected to Grow Faster in 2017 on Increasing User Acceptance and Ecosystem Improvement: MIC

After asking the respondents "Do you agree or not to continue using mobile payment to make transactions, acquire merchandises and use services in the future," over 70% of mobile payment users completed the statement with "totally agree" and "agree" 26.8% with "neural," and merely 2.1% with "disagree" and "totally disagree," according to a questionnaire-based survey conducted by MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a Taipei-based IT research institute. "This reflects that over 70% of mobile payment users have high levels of willingness to continue using mobile payments while 35.2% of mobile payment non-users show interest in using mobile payments," says Hephy Hu, industry analyst with MIC.

"Thanks to joint efforts of companies in various sectors, Taiwan's environment for mobile payments has improved ever since Taiwan's Act Governing Electronic Payment Institutions took effect in May 2015, providing a legal groundwork for companies who intend to offer third-party payment services. With the gradual readiness of legislations, technologies, and players, the share of customers who have made mobile payments reached 19% at the end of 2015, up from merely 4.8% at the end of 2014."
