Shipment volume of the server systems industry at full system and barebones levels is estimated at 960 units, up 8.1% sequentially, while of those at the board level is anticipated to have reached 1,179 units, up 1.2% sequentially in the second quarter of 2016, according to MIC (Market Intelligence & Consulting Institute), a Taipei-based IT research institute. "The server market is no longer hardware-driven and this is proven by the fact that Google has declared its aggressive move into the private cloud market and target enterprises users," says Pei-Fen Hsieh, senior analyst with MIC.

"Amid the increasing demand for computing services, Taiwanese companies will continue their role as global server contract manufacturers. Though the market is expecting a reshuffle, large-sized ISPs or international server brands still look to Taiwanese companies for supply needs, except some Chinese brands which lean heavily on homegrown products," says Hsieh.
