Worldwide communications industry's shipment value – comprising of mobile, wireless, and cable communications subsectors - witnessed 6.2% year-on-year growth in 2014 to US$463.2 billion, according to Welber Chang, Director of Communications Industry Research Center at MIC (Market Intelligence and Consulting Institute), a Taipei-based IT research institute. "In 2015, the industry will continue growth momentum, growing at 7.9% year-on-year to break US$500 billion."
In Taiwan, the communications industry is projected to grow 9.9% year-on-year to around NT$2.8 trillion (US$90 billion; US$1 =NT$31.3), with contribution coming mainly from mobile phones and broadband CPE, says Chang.

Observing all products in three subsectors of Taiwan's communications industry, mobile phone, broadband CPE, and FTTx are three products expected to experience 10% or higher year-on-year growth in 2015. While mobile phones are benefited by outsourcing orders from Apple and Xiaomi, broadband CPE is particularly bolstered by the robust demand for cable modems. Furthermore, shipment value of FTTx is predicted to also grow around 10.5% year-on-year, owing to the bullish demand from datacenter owners and telecom operators to build back-end network systems.
