Sony is considering selling its PC operations to the private investment fund Japan Industrial Partners for an estimated price at 40 billion Yen to 50 billion Yen (US$394 million to US$493 million; US$1=101.44 Yen) as part of the company's revival plan to concentrate on smartphone business, reported Japan's Nikkei on February 5. As part of the discussion, a new company may be founded by the fund to continue PC sales under the Vaio brand in Japan and handle after-sales service. Sony will only have a small stake in the new company and maintain PC operations in a handful of overseas markets where the Vaio brand is recognized. Sony's major Taiwanese PC contract manufacturers include Quanta, Foxconn, and Wistron.
