The Taipei City Government announced on November 26 that the ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) has approved its application to use the domain name ".taipei", which will enable the city to be more easily recognized in the Internet. Taipei will become one of the 52 cities to have their own domain names, together with Berlin, London, New York, Paris, and Tokyo. Tests of the domain name and follow-up procedures to close the contract with ICANN remained to be done. The city expects to launch the new domain name by the end of 2014, with city agencies first to change their Web addresses, before opening for registration by enterprises and citizens.
