CSOT Spends $24.4 Billion RMB on 8.5G Line Expansion

CSOT launched a $24.4 billion RMB (US$4.0 billion; US$1=$6.096 RMB) expansion plan to construct a second 8.5G production line on November 16, according to China Business News. A portion of the money will come from strategic investors, like international funds. The line will adopt new technologies such as oxide TFT (Thin-film Transistor) and OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode), and is slated to begin production by June 2015, with designed capacity of 100,000 glass substrates per month – 70,000 pieces of a-Si and 30,000 pieces of oxide TFT (including AMOLED) substrates. The new line is reportedly to focus on large-area (32" to 42") and ultra-high definition products for LTPS (Low Temperature Poly-Silicon) or IGZO (Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide) technologies.
