Taiwan's Executive Yuan released the latest policy address indicating that international companies such as Google, Synnex, and ASE are planning to increase their investments in Taiwan in anticipation of a brighter economy in 2014, as reported by the Economic Daily News on September 17. Google will triple its spending from US100 million to US$ 300 million on its cloud data center in Taiwan, which will complete its first-phase construction by the end of 2013 and begin operation in 2014. Synnex will set up a global cloud network center in Taiwan, allotting around NT$1.7 billion (US$57.36 million; US$1 = NT$29.638) in three years. Targeting strong growth in global smartphone demand, ASE will build six packaging and testing plants in Taiwan by 2015, with a total investment of NT$73.4 billion (US$2.48 billion).
