Taiwan has developed cloud computing systems software to give the industry an edge in the worldwide cloud computing market, which is estimated to have an annual volume of US$90 billion, said Taiwan's MOEA (Ministry of Economic Affairs) at a press conference, as reported by Taiwan's Commercial Times on September 4. Commissioned by MOEA, III (Institute for Information Industry) has created CAFE (Cloud Appliance for Enterprises), which can provide small and medium-sized enterprises with a diversified options of low-cost cloud computing solutions, while ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) developed a large-scale cloud data center operating system technology, dubbed ITRI Cloud OS. MOEA said that the launch of cloud computing systems software marks its first step in cloud computing strategy. In the future, MOEA aims to help Taiwanese vendors play a role in setting standardized protocols and obtain Facebook's OCP (Open Compute Project) certification.
