LG to Launch OLED Mass Production in 2H 2014

LG Display announced that it schedules to begin large-scale production of OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) panels in the second half of 2014, according to the Korea Times on August 1. Installed in the company's Paju display plant in Korea, the new line will apply Gen 8 glass-cutting technology and has a monthly production capacity of 26,000 glass sheets - each measuring 2,200 mm in width and 2,500 mm in height - suitable for TV screens over 50 inches. The total investment will amount to 700 billion won (US$622.6 million; US$1=$1124.3 won). Meanwhile, its hometown rival Samsung Display has yet to release a similar plan.
