Cando to Expand 4.5G Production Line for Touchscreen Windows 8 Notebook PCs
November 23, 2012

Cando, a Taiwanese capacitive touchscreen panel manufacturer and a subsidiary of TPK Holding, announced that it plans to spend NT$4.0 billion (US$137.3 million; US$1=NT$29.125) on the construction of a new 4.5G line in the Central Taiwan Science Park, as reported by Taiwan's Commercial Times on 22 November. The new line, which is slated for operations in the second half of 2013, is expected to double Cando's monthly production capacity of large-size touchscreen panels to two million units. With the release of Windows 8, Cando's existing 4.5G line has reached full capacity of one million units per month but is still unable to keep up with increasing orders. TPK anticipates that the full-year demand for touchscreen notebook PCs will reach 40 million units in 2013, which represents an adoption rate of over 20% compared to less than 5% at present.
