Chunghwa Telecom, Google Join Hands for Digital TV Service on Youtube
September 21, 2012

Taiwan's major telecom operator Chunghwa Telecom announced on 18 September 2012 that the company will start to offer YouTube content on its MOD (Multimedia-on-Demand) service since October, according to a report by Taiwan's Central News Agency. As part of the agreement inked last month with Google, the operator has been granted access to YouTube's API (application programming interface) and authorized content, which allows its MOD subscribers to watch YouTube videos on TVs with upgraded user interface. With the second-generation MOD platform preinstalled with the YouTube application, users will be able to access content both through the operator's closed network and the Internet. It is reported that the company plans to shift the existing user base, which reached 1.16 million as of August 2012, to the new platform, but needs time to upgrade set-top boxes.
