WiMAX Development in Asia October 24-30

- Taiwanese WiMAX carrier Global Mobile announced on October 25, 2011 that the company will release two WiMAX dual-mode Smartphones in December this year, according to the Economic Daily News of Taiwan. It is reported that MediaTek's chips were adopted by Global Mobile for its Smartphones. Global Mobile has already invested NT$ 3.5 billion (US$117.4 million; US$1=NT$29.8) in WiMAX base station deployment in northern Taiwan, covering more than 70% of the total population. The company plans to invest NT$1 billion (US$33.6 million) in 2012 to expand its WiMAX coverage to 90%.
