AUO has received approval from NDRC (National Development and Reform Commission) of China to build its 8.5G TFT-LCD (Thin-Film Transistor-Liquid Crystal Display) panel production plant in Kunshan, China, according to an August 10, 2011 report by the Commercial Times of Taiwan. Total investment is estimated at approximately US$3.25 billion. AUO originally expected to start volume production of the Kunshan plant by the end of 2012, but the company stated that the production schedule is now changed, and volume production will not be launched until 2013.
