China to Procure 30 million FPDs for US$5.5 Billion in Taiwan
June 17, 2011

China Video Industry Association recently announced that the Association, serving as the delegation of many Chinese FPD (Flat Panel Display) companies, plans to buy around 30 million FDPs worth US$5.5 billion from Taiwanese FPD suppliers, which is 28% higher than the procurement value in 2010, the United Daily News reported on June 16. The Association stated that it will help bridge the collaboration between Taiwanese and Chinese FPD companies in the areas of chipsets, Android OS, touch panel display, and LED (Light Emitting Diode) crystal display, according to the same source. The Association claimed that Chinese BOE's 8.5G FPD plant is due to begin mass production by the end of June and Huaxing Guang Electronics' 8.5G plant is projected to begin operations by the year-end 2011. In addition, it is estimated that even with full capacity currently available in China, nearly 50% of Chinese domestic demand will be left untapped by 2014, indicating that China will have to heavily depend on oversea supplies by then.
