Intel, Tencent to Launch Joint Research Center in China

Intel has teamed up with Chinese Internet company Tencent to set up a joint research center in China, according to an April 13, 2011 report by the Wall Street Journal. It is reported that the research center will focus on technology and service development for tablet PCs and mobile devices. As per the agreement, Intel will be in charge of hardware and operating system development, while Tencent will be responsible for services, products, and user experience for joint projects. At initial stage, the research center is expected to hire approximately 60 engineers. It is projected that the research center will gradually increase the number of engineers to 200 and expand its research areas to online services that can be integrated with various devices, such as mobile phones, personal PCs, TV sets, and vehicles.
