Toshiba to Expand LCD TV Product Lineup, Double TV Market Share in Middle East, Africa

Toshiba plans to increase its product lineup of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) TVs in the Middle East and Africa region, according to a January 17, 2011 report by the Japan Today. Toshiba said that the company will release 10 new TV models in this region later this month, including the Power TV series, which is specially designed for areas with weak signals in emerging countries. It is reported that Toshiba's move is aimed to boost its market share in this region from the current 9% to 20% by fiscal year ending in March 2014.

In related news, Toshiba and El Araby Group inked an agreement on January 14, 2011 for the establishment of a joint venture located in Cairo, Egypt, according to a press release by Toshiba. Dubbed Toshiba El Araby Visual Products, the new JV is slated for LCD TV volume production in March 2011.
