Taiwan's
MOEA (Ministry of Economic Affairs) announced on January 3, 2011 that the US
Qualcomm will invest approximately US$1 billion in building a display plant
based on the mirasol technology, according to a press release by MOEA. It is
reported that the new Qualcomm plant will be used to manufacture small- and
medium-sized mirasol displays. Located in the Hsinchu Science Park, northern
Taiwan, the new plant is slated to begin operations in 2012.
Qualcomm's
next-generation miraso displays are based on a reflective technology called IMOD
(Interferometric Modulation), with MEMS (Micro Electrical Mechanical Systems) at
its core.
