Acer to Join Tablet Competition with New Models in February, April 2011

Acer announced at a news conference held in New York on November 23, 2010 that the company plans to release three tablet PC models in 2011, according to the Bloomberg. The first model, featuring a 10.1-inch touch-screen and Microsoft's Windows operating system, is projected to be launched in February 2011. The other two models, running on Google's Android operating system and featuring 7-inch and 10.1-inch touch-screens, are scheduled to hit the market in April 2011. All three devices are equipped with Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) connectivity and are expected to offer 3G Internet connection function. Names and Prices of Acer's new tablet models are yet to be disclosed.

Acer estimates that around 40 million to 50 million units of tablet PC will be sold globally in 2011, and the company aims to take up approximately 10% share of the tablet PC market, according to the Bloomberg again.
